IT managers come to deduplication from several angles. Some are seeing their backup windows getting crushed under the weight of data growth. Others simply outgrow the limits of their existing data backup and recovery infrastructures. Still others find that in order to take optimum advantage of economical cloud-based backup and disaster recovery service options, deduplication is becoming an imperative. These are all among the scenarios driving customers to evaluate and adopt Quantum’s new DXi6800 deduplication appliance.
Quantum’s director of data protection product marketing, Eric Bassier, recently published several articles that address the most common issues IT managers face when they explore deduplication.

The DXi-Series does it again, setting a new bar for Enterprise disk backup and deduplication. With its latest release, our industry-leading enterprise DXi deduplication appliance, the DXi8500, has made a number of great new improvements, many resulting from the addition of 3TB drives – which is an industry first, I might add!

These improvements include:
Greatly Improved Storage Density: The DXi8500 has achieved 50% better storage density by fitting up to 330TB of usable capacity into a single rack – which previously required two racks to provide a similar usable capacity. If you wanted that much capacity using our biggest competitor, you’d need to clear out some extra space in your data center – they require two racks.
Increased Storage Efficiency: The other thing you’d get with our top competitor? A bigger electric bill. Due to the reduced number of components (one rack vs. two; fewer disk drives, etc…) and other optimizations to the DXi8500 hardware, we now provide customers with a much more efficient deduplication solution – up to 42% reduction in power usage.
