As some of you know, I use an Acer Aspire S7 and love it. It’s a great device that has travelled from event to event, city to city and work place to fun place and back again. It’s why I’m thrilled to be joined by Acer for this week’s tech chat as they talk about the new Acer Aspire R7 (one of a few new PCs recently announced by Acer). This device is a touch notebook with an inventive hinge that allows your screen to be manipulated at multiple function points – this makes reading, sharing and playing more enjoyable. With an optimized series of positioning points, you can be more effective and more comfortable.

Tech Tuesday Live Twitter Chat - TBR #winchat

MCA Article Feed.

I once had a professor tell me that nothing matters if you don’t have the data to back it up. This has proven to be true in basically every realm of my life. As such, I tend to geek out on surveys, reports, infographs and every other document I can use to educate myself on the data. So, when a study came out talking about why consumers love tablets, but want more, I was curious. What did those numbers mean? Where did that data come from?

So, we reached out to Technology Business Research (TBR) to see if they would join our Tech Tuesday to share more information on the survey data. Luckily, they said yes and are joining us this week to talk about trends in tablet usage, what we want out of our tablets and where we tend to bring them.

“Owners love their tablets and use them constantly, but many want them to do more,” said Ezra Gottheil, Principal Analyst for TBR (@egottheil). “Now available in a range of sizes, prices, and capabilities, tablets are transforming the computing landscape.” This is something we already know at Windows, which is why we are psyched at the variety of tablet + PC form factors on the market. From the Surface RT and Pro, to the HP Envy X2 or the Asus VivoTab RT, tablets with docks and keyboards bring Windows 8 to life allowing people to work and play on products they love.

Tech Tuesday Live Twitter Chat: Do Some Good with a Windows 8 App #winchat

MCA Article Feed.

It’s the New Year and it’s time to do something good for the world. For some people that means donating old clothes to a nearby drop off or helping out a needy family but here at Microsoft it means thinking how technology can improve the world. We donate, on average, $1 million dollars a day in software to nonprofits around the world. In the hands of nonprofit organizations, technology can boost productivity, increase effectiveness through better collaboration, and extend services to new communities and individuals in need. Moreover, technology can be a powerful force that opens exciting opportunities for nonprofits to better achieve their missions and accelerate their impact. And right now, we are sponsoring a contest to encourage you to build a great Windows 8 app that will help the community.

Windows 8 Apps for Social Good invites both new and seasoned developers to create an app for “social good” – and you could win one of three cash prizes to help fuel your dream and keep it going:
