One great feature of Windows Phone 8 is its ability to save full-resolution backup copies of your pictures and videos on SkyDrive, Microsoft’s cloud storage service. It’s an option that both helps protect your best shots and also makes them easier to share. But as some of you have noted, that feature wasn’t available in all markets.
Until now. Today I am pleased to announce that we’re making the ability to back up full-res photos and videos available everywhere. (We just started to light this up, so be patient if you don’t see it right away. The change could take a few days to roll out around the globe.)
To start using the new feature, tap Photos>More>Settings>SkyDrive. Here’s what it looks like visually:

Vimeo—the popular video sharing site catering to “high-quality videos and the people who love them”—just published a new version of its official app that’s designed just for Windows Phone 8. I haven’t had a chance to test drive it yet, but it appears to include some neat upgrades that take advantage of some of the cooler features in our new release—such as the ability to share videos between phones via the new NFC tap-to-share feature.
Download it (it’s free) and tell me what you think.

MCA Tips Feed. Oracle gets huge performance gains by designing Oracle Solaris in combination with the T4 SPARC systems. Brad Carlile, Senior Director of Performance Engineering, explains what his team does to get record-breaking performance not only from the chip, but from the entire stack. And not only in a theoretical environment, but in a virtualized environment with encryption turned on. Most important: what sysadmin and developers should and shouldn't do to take advantage. Taped at Oracle OpenWorld 2012.

If you’ve just picked up a new Windows Phone 8 and want some pointers on how to use some of its new search-related features, check out this video from Bing’s Stefan Weitz, who walks through some of his favorites.
The video was first published on the Search Blog this afternoon.

My love of photography started at a young age when my grandpa gave me my first camera. He had a darkroom in his house, and taught me the basics of composing a great shot, developing film by hand (remember film?), and getting my prints to come out just right so I could share them with family and friends. I carefully stored these images away in protective albums so they’d always be safe.
Today I help build the camera and photo features for Windows Phone. A lot’s changed since I was a kid, but the story hasn’t: People still love taking, tweaking, and sharing photos—and worry about keeping them safe. But rather than a point-and-shoot or SLR, we’re increasingly pulling out our phones.
The last two Windows Phone releases introduced a number of innovations, but in Windows Phone 8 the photo story gets even better—with an amazing new feature called Lenses, improved image quality, new editing tools, cloud-based backup, and new ways to manage and share multiple photos. We’ve also tackled several of your top feature requests.
